Capitol Hill Residences

Maryland Avenue NE

Washington, DC

Powe . Jones . Architects is designing three 5,200 SF town homes on Maryland Avenue NE in the heart of the Capitol Hill Historic District. Each four story home includes a living level with 12 feet ceilings including a large living room, dining room and entertainment kitchen, second floor master bedroom suite and library, and third floor guest suite plus two bedrooms, rooftop entertainment terrace, basement in-law suite and two car garage. For Maryland Avenue Ventures, LLC, a venture between New Legacy Partners and Regan Associates.

 

Marion County Courthouse

Fairmont, West Virginia

Marion County Commission selected Powe . Jones . Architects for the phased restoration of the historic Marion County Courthouse, circa 1900. The original stone building includes significant cast iron detailing, including the balustrade and domed clock tower, which are the initial elements being restored. The roof structure is also being rehabilitated as well as failed roof drainage and underground drainage systems. Future renovations will be executed as grant funding becomes available.

 

 

 

Chancery & Ambassador’s Residence

Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia

Washington, DC

 

Powe . Jones . Architects is adapting the three story ca 1960 former Yugoslavian Embassy into the new Chancery and Ambassador’s Residence for the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia. The residence, which will occupy the top floor, features an entertainment-sized salon, dining room and terrace with separate family quarters, with the Chancery including embassy offices, a reception hall and two guest apartments. 

Engine Company 12 and XM Satellite Radio Lounge

North Capitol Street

Washington, DC

 

Powe . Jones . Architects, teamed with local developer NextGen Development and local restaurateur Novel Foods, was selected in a District of Columbia Government competition to renovate the historic land-marked 1910 Engine Company 12 firehouse on North Capitol Street. The three story structure will include a family-oriented wood oven style restaurant in the engine house, with second floor lounge which will regularly host live broadcast interviews for XM Satellite Radio, with the third floor including outdoor roof terrace dining. The exterior will be rehabilitated as will a number of existing interior elements. The project is anticipated to serve as a major catalyst for the renaissance of North Capitol Street, one of DC’s “Main Streets”.

 

New Academic Building

US Naval Academy

Annapolis, Maryland

Working with nationally prominent landscape architecture and planning firm EDAW on a term contract with NAVFAC to provide master planning services at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Powe . Jones . Architects is performing a study to site a new academic building on the sensitive historic main campus. The master planning effort includes programming verification and study of the reuse potential of existing historic buildings on the adjacent North Yard or Hospital Point area of the campus.

 

 

 

Foundry United Methodist Church

Washington, DC

Powe . Jones . Architects have been working since 2004 on the phased  rehabilitation, modernization, renovation and expansion on this century-old church complex in the Sixteenth Street Historic District in downtown Washington, DC. Following a building assessment, programming analysis, and master plan for the 60,000 SF block-long facility, the firm has designed the first phase of improvements, including ADA compliance renovations, life safety enhancements, architectural and structural rehabilitation, and initial building systems replacement.

 

 

Downtown Business Hotel

Washington, D.C.

 

Powe Jones Architects has developed the concept for a new 255-room business hotel in southwest Washington, DC.  Working with a local developer, the design incorporates street level retail space, a ground floor, street-front restaurant with sidewalk seating, a 2nd floor (terrace level) exterior pool deck and roof-top restaurant and bar with commanding views of the Mall and the Capitol.

 

 

Anna J. Cooper House

LeDroit Park

Washington, DC

 

One of the first houses built in historic LeDroit Park, 201 T Street NW became the home of Anna J Cooper, a prominent African American Educator. At one point in the house’s history, Ms. Cooper converted the residence into a small university. Powe . Jones . Architects has been engaged by its new owners, Brian and Louise Brown, to rehabilitate the existing 5,000 SF+ house.  The project includes the integration of modern building systems, renovation of the existing English basement as a guest suite, chapel and entertainment space, and adding an historically respectful three story carriage house including three car garage, office area and guest apartment.
