Loftus All-Sports Building
University of Notre Dame
Notre Dame, Indiana
 |
Notre Dame’s
football and track programs are housed within the All-Sports Building. Cost
and speed of construction were of primary concerns, as the building had to
be complete for the start of the football-training season. A full-size
football field, indoor track, 7,700 sq.ft. weight room, auditorium with
custom-designed oversized seating and locker rooms are contained within the
building. Meyo field is a 100-yard artificial-turf field with end zones.
There are field markings for football, lacrosse and soccer. There is also a
netting system that can accommodate batting cages and practicing golfers.
Based upon a standard, pre-engineered metal frame, the building is clad in
face brick and "rock face" concrete block to fit the campus context. The
smaller building, containing the weight room and auditorium, fronts the
campus, while the practice football facility is located so as to screen its
bulk.
