Campus Master Plan
University of Notre Dame
Notre Dame, IN
 |
With over 1,700
acres of property, the traditional core of the University inhabited an
approximately 160 acre area bound by the lake to the north and Notre Dame
Avenue to the south. Parking, traffic congestion, pedestrian access,
academic and athletic facilities expansion had all become major impediments
to the sustained growth of the campus. The master plan identified core
academic, housing and athletic precincts on campus and established growth
corridors for future facilities, including the development of two new malls.
As a part of this effort, the University Golf Course, situated at the
southeast corner of the campus, was identified as a prime candidate for
relocation to free-up valuable campus space for growth. Satellite
parking areas were developed to intercept traffic outside the campus core
and traffic restrictions were imposed on-campus. Utilities master planning
anticipates the addition of more than 1.5 million sq.ft. of campus
facilities.
