Greg Powe was
Project Director for the design of this 4 million square foot federal office and
trade center complex, including 2 million square feet of federal agency
headquarters offices, a 500,000 SF international trade center and offices,
retail/restaurants and 2400-car underground parking garage.
The original concept
for the building included a major cultural component which was deleted after
design development. The International Cultural and Trade Center was
conceived to "enhance international trade through cultural understanding".
The Center included a Museum of World Cultures, a three theater performing arts
complex (to have been truly the National Theater), a cinema complex, an IMAX
theater on world cultures and international trade center, ballroom and meeting
rooms.
It is a modern
building, respectful of its historic Federal Triangle setting. It was developed
as a Public/Private Partnership of three Federal agency clients (PADC, GSA &
ICTC) and a developer consortium lead by Zeckendorf.
